What motivates you in the morning?

A good cup of coffee.

What is your mantra for when things are tough?

No matter how tough things get, there is always someone else suffering more. My worst day is someone else’s best.

If you could do anything else, what would it be and why?

I have a pretty awesome job, but if I didn’t do what I did, I could see myself as some sort of outdoor tour guide. Really anything that keeps me out of an office.

Describe your best moment ever.

Marrying my wife, hands down.

How did you get into your profession?

I joined the Coast Guard very young. I wanted a chance to serve in a search and rescue service and learn the skills to help others. I’ve had an incredible career working with the best group of men and women. When I got into photography, I wanted a chance to capture unique perspectives not everyone has a chance to see. I’m glad I can share my journey with so many people.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Don’t get worked up on the things you can’t control. And never ever quit.

What are your top three Pelican products?

In a profession with a lot of gear, it’s important to protect it. I have a couple iM2975 Storm Cases I travel with that do just that. For camera gear, I trust my 1600 protector case. No other bag can fully protect my gear. Last but not least, my 7600 flashlight. Perfect for aircraft preflights, and the dark winter months in Alaska.
