Pelican™ Helps Set Healthy Pelicans Free After The Storms

Torrance, CA -

John Padian, COO, along with Marketing staffers Sharon Ward and Keith Swenson of Pelican Products, Inc., the global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced lighting systems and virtually indestructible cases, were on hand today to help the International Bird Rescue and Research Center (IBRRC) set 14 newly-rehabilitated, California Brown Pelicans free at the White Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro, California.

After seeing recent news reports about the IBRRC and how they were helping save pelicans in trouble, Pelican Products made a monetary and product donation to support the Center’s efforts.  “We are proud to support an organization that does such great work,” said John Padian, Pelican’s COO. “Pelican Cases are famous for their watertight properties so it’s only natural that we help keep their namesake safe.”

The donation helped save the lives of multiple pelicans injured by sea lion bites, fishing lines and oceanic run off from recent Los Angeles weather patterns. While waterproof feathers usually allow pelicans to float and stay insulated from weather changes, the current massive runoff from storms has brought even more grease, car oil sheen, fish oils and other forms of surface pollution into the coastal areas where these birds feed. Pollution breaks down the water-repelling properties of the feathers and creates body temperature issues and a serious hypothermia danger for the sea birds.

About the IBRRC
