TOOLING ENGINEER
SUMMARY:
Oversees tooling projects from conception through production start-up which includes working with tooling suppliers on schedules and project implementation. Responsible for repair and changes to existing tooling, introduces new tooling technologies and makes recommendations on tooling projects to ensure optimum productivity, efficiency and cost-savings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees tooling projects from conception through production start-up, which includes working with tooling suppliers on schedules and project implementation.
- Review product designs and makes recommendations on tooling projects to ensure optimum productivity, efficiency and cost-savings.
- Participates in tool design reviews.
- Recommends types of steel to be used for tooling projects.
- Tracks construction of injection molds.
- Ensures tooling capacity is adequate to meet marketing projections.
- Reviews parts and first samples and makes recommendations to improve production & molding conditions.
- Sources international tooling engineers and suppliers, and interacts with them on a regular basis to ensure that services provided meet Pelican’s standards of quality, service and safety.
- Oversees project schedules with tooling suppliers and ensures that projects are completed on time and according to budget.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
- Minimum of 5 years on-the-job experience in Tooling Engineering or related field.
- AS or BS Degree in Tool Engineering or Plastics Technology preferred.
- Mold design and / or mold building experience preferred.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, Visio and Project Planning software required, with CAM/CAD or 3-D modeling experience preferred.
- Ability to work well under minimal supervision and manage projects to meet designated milestones & deadlines.
- Thorough knowledge of mold filling analysis, machining, plastics tooling manufacturing and design required.
- Broad knowledge of injection molding and best-in-class molding practices required.
- Must possess very good written, math and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to travel internationally, as much as one to two weeks per month.
- Must have the ability to complete assignments within time frame specified by the Tooling Supervisor.
- Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
- Must be flexible with work schedules and be available to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
- Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
